What is School Readiness?
"School
readiness" is a measure of how prepared a child is to succeed in, and
benefit from, the formal school setting, on a cognitive, social, and
emotional level.
Going
to school (Grade 1) is a momentous event in a child's life. It is
therefore crucial that he/she is ready for this. A child who is not
'school-ready', may enter the formal schooling system with a deficit
that could have a tremendous impact on his/her approach to school, and
life in general. This invariably has a significant impact on future
learning; and/or may prevent a child from reaching their full potential.

What is a School Readiness Assessment?
A
School Readiness Assessment investigates various elements of a child's
intellectual-, social-, physical-, and emotional- functioning, along
with normative developmental aspects, to determine whether he/she is
likely to benefit from the formal school environment, at a given point
in time.
If shortfalls are detected, certain
suggestions and interventions may be recommended to address pertinent
challenges. An Educational Psychologist can support the process of
assisting a child, family and school, in preparing for the formal
schooling environment.
